Last weekend I had a wedding to go to and rather predictably after a review of my wardrobe I decided that I had nothing to wear and needed a new dress.
I always find shopping for occasion wear hit and miss at this time of year because summer is ending and the stores start replacing the colourful summer dresses with autumn stock. However, I found myself in prom dress heaven in Quiz. They’ve just opened a branch in Peterborough so I wasn’t really sure what style of clothes they offered, but it turns out it’s full on glamour in there. Tulle skirts, off the shoulder tutu dresses, florals, lace… you name it.
I had fun trying on some princess dresses (just so I could twirl about in the changing room and pretend I was poshing it up in Paris or something) then spotted the sassiest Little Red Dress which seemed to say ‘try me – now!’ To my surprise, it fitted perfectly, so as this never happens I snapped it straight up. With an unexpected few hours spare I spent the rest of the afternoon Pokemon hunting! (Tip: if you’re in Peterborough head to the Cathedral square – it’s Pokestop heaven.)
The night before the wedding I decided that my red dress deserved red lipstick to match, so I ordered my first ever MAC lipstick in Ruby Woo on next day delivery from Debenhams. The makeup gods were kind to me. I ordered it at 8.58pm and it arrived the next day 20 minutes before we were due to leave for the ceremony.
Another quick tip: If you buy a matte lipstick prep your lips with some lip balm first girls to save an emergency trip to the ladies upon arrival at your special event to fix what looks like the aftermath of a heavy red wine drinking session.
Other than that small mishap however, I have to say I’m a convert to the all red everything look. I still love a little black dress… but it’s going to have to share the spotlight from now on.
