I often get asked if I miss certain non vegan foods and I really don’t. Out of sight out of mind I guess. However sometimes I eat something and instantly recognise the taste and that can be quite joyful!
It’s therefore with possibly far too much excitement (my boyfriend was slightly baffled at how much I went on about it) that I announce: I FOUND THE VEGAN DUPE FOR MINT AERO!
This delightful discovery is courtesy of Pure Heavenly.
Pure Heavenly burst onto the scene via Dragon’s Den where their chocolate impressed the dragons enough to make an offer. Everything they make is 100% vegan and free from dairy, gluten, wheat, soy, GMO ingredients and palm oil, so it suits most dietary restrictions.
They also have a strong ethical conscience. Their packaging is 100% recyclable and they support charities across the globe through global initiatives and partnerships.
Back to the chocolate though! I’ve tried four of the flavours so far and concluded that this chocolate deserves its place alongside a few other brands I’ve found as some of the best vegan chocolate I’ve ever eaten.
They offer a range of dark chocolate flavours (dark raspberry is delicious) but I’d like to give a particular shout out to the ‘milk’ chocolate editions.
Some major chocolate brands *cough* Cadbury’s *cough* still haven’t brought out any vegan editions of their milk chocolate as they just can’t get it right.
Pure Heavenly have nailed theirs. The texture is smooth and silky with a lusciously sweet flavour that doesn’t taste artificial (the main problem with many vegan brands).
I happily chomped my way through a bar of the Silk flavour (lovely) and then was even more impressed with the Salted Caramel (one of my all time favourite chocolate flavour combos).
The bar I had left until last (because to be honest I was not that enthusiastic about trying it) was the mint one. Which is when I had my a-ha moment!
If you’re vegan but used to love a Mint Aero back in the day then do yourself a favour and get a bar of this! It doesn’t have the same green bubbly centre but the overall thickness, texture and flavour took me right back.
Each bar also contains less than 4% sugar which is happy news for me. I’ve become much more aware of how different nutrients affect me since I started tracking my macros. The simple carbs in sugar tend to send me on a high and then I crash and am left with cravings.
That doesn’t mean to say that a bar of this stuff is super healthy of course. It isn’t, it’s chocolate! However most of the calories come from the cocoa butter. This is high in saturated fat, but it’s worth noting that it has the opposite effect to sugar, helping you to feel satiated so that you don’t need as much of it.
I’d put this chocolate firmly in the ‘enjoy a little bit of what you love… just don’t over do it’ category.
If you try this chocolate let me know what you think of my dupe for Mint Aero discovery! Also please do share your own vegan discoveries with me!
