I always dread clothes shopping as it seems to be designed for the sole purpose of reminding me of all my body hangups. The reject pile in the changing room is usually around 95% of what I take in and the whole process can leave me feeling rather dejected. However adding black tights and a cardigan to my summer outfits was only going to get me by for so long so I finally stopped procrastinating and tried some things on yesterday.
By some miracle things went really well! After an hour I’d already gone a bit mad and treated myself to a new coat, 2 dresses, 2 tops and a skirt! I decided to quit whilst I was ahead and left laden with bags and that excited ‘new clothes’ feeling.
One of the pieces I was most excited to have found was this black and red checked skirt from New Look. I had bought the exact same skirt in the Spring but in a different colour/pattern (which you can see on my Instagram here) and it’s been one of my favourite things to wear. I was over the moon to spot a new Autumn/Winter version and snapped it up straight away.
The reason I love it is that it’s got no zips or buttons or waist seams. I’m always super conscious of my tummy so I don’t like to wear things that add bulk and draw attention to that area, but this one is just a super stretchy pull on number which I find really forgiving on my body shape once layered with the right top. (Plus I just think it looks super cute!)
I found quite a few ribbed polo/funnel neck tops in the shops at the moment and I really wanted one as I’ve been getting cold lately in my air conditioned office. In standard sizing they are always too long for me but Miss Selfridge had a Petite version which fitted perfectly – hooray!
Every outfit that I wear at the moment is accessorized with ankle boots and black tights as standard, so I wear patterned ones every so often to make things a bit more interesting. These ones came from Primark whose tights are actually really good quality for the price.
I’m looking forward to next week as I always do after a good spree. Mornings at the wardrobe will be less “Nothing to wear” and more “What do I wear first?!”
