Do you remember that time when I got to create my own afternoon tea party in London courtesy of Bettys? (If not catch up here first!) Ever since then I’ve been hankering after a visit to one of their famous tea rooms so I was over the moon when the lovely team from Taylors of Harrogate said that they would take us there after our Coffee Masterclass.

I mean, I’ve been to my fair share of Afternoon Teas now, but a properly traditional Yorkshire version in the place where Bettys began? Yes please and thank you.
Harrogate itself is a charming little town in Yorkshire. With so many things to do in London I hardly ever journey so far up North but it turned out that it’s a doddle from Peterborough by train. Bettys Cafe and Tea Rooms themselves were also in walking distance of the station, so much so that for once I didn’t even have to change out of my heels!
Now I suppose I could go into great detail about how the sandwiches tasted and come up with various ways of saying that I thoroughly enjoyed the scones, but I really don’t think any of that’s needed. Suffice to say that whilst everyone else took polite little nibbles, I stuffed myself silly!
With these….
Lashings of clotted cream on my scones….
…and these little legends.
Delicate lemon macaroons that melted on my tongue…
…a small but richly satisfying chocolate pavé so intense that even I struggled to finish it. (I ate all the biscuit base of course!)…
…and a fresh fruit tart with deliciously crumbly pastry.
So I’m just going to pretty much let the pictures speak for themselves. Yes, this post has pretty much just been food porn! #sorrynotsorry
By the way thanks go to my mum for finding this beaut dress in a thrift shop for me a couple of days beforehand – it was perfect for the occasion! (I have this thing with bows…)
Have you been to a traditional afternoon tea? Where should be next on my UK travel list?
Disclaimer: I was lucky enough to be treated to afternoon tea at Bettys Cafe and Tea Rooms by the team at Taylors of Harrogate, but all views are honest and my own (and I’ll be back as a paying customer before too long!).
