I always know when it’s time for a haircut. My hair goes almost overnight from being nice and healthy to really brittle, course and damaged at the ends. Recently when this happened I wasn’t able to get a hair appointment for a couple of weeks, so I had to switch up my normal haircare routine to try and combat the frizz.
After trying lots of different products I settled on these favourite finds which I’m still using now to keep my hair shiny and healthy.
Ages ago I received a couple of OGX conditioners in a goody bag at an event. The first one I tried was the Kukui Oil version. This was okay as an everyday conditioner but I wasn’t blown away by it. However after switching to the Coconut Water version which is specifically formulated to nourish dry and damaged hair I noticed an immediate difference. Whilst it couldn’t completely repair the frizzy damage, my hair was easier to de-tangle after washing and the ends were noticeably smoother and tamed. I’m still using it now and the bottle is lasting for ages.
It smells gorgeous too! The first time I used it I kept smelling my hair and then making N smell it. I’m not weird.
I’ve tried quite a few deep conditioning treatment masks and I’ve got good results with all of them, but I found that quite a few come in one application sachets and are quite expensive. I was looking for something a bit more affordable and spotted this one whilst doing the weekly shop.
I’ve been using it twice a week ever since and a pot lasts me about 3 weeks (I think I probably use too much but I do have long hair!). There’s a honey and apricot infused version too called Bee Strong which is equally good and smells even more lush than this one, but they only seem to stock it in selected stores. My hair always feels silkier and much easier to untangle after using these.
I like to dry my hair naturally and don’t really like putting much product it in – I prefer it to feel clean and fresh. However when I got my hair cut the stylist spritzed on a lightweight oil, explaining that it would help keep my hair hydrated and soft, and I really liked the results it gave. I didn’t like the salon price tag, however, so when I saw in Boots that OGX do a version from the same range as the conditioner I’ve been loving, I couldn’t help but pick some up.
Two spritzes are enough to take away the ‘fluffy’ look after drying my hair naturally and give my hair a bit of extra shine. Plus it has the same delicious smell as the conditioner, so now I can layer up the scent. (I will admit to having sprayed on some before going to bed a couple of times just so I can smell it as I go to sleep – okay yes I’m weird!).
For shampoo I’m currently alternating between Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo and OGX Extra Strength Argan Oil Shampoo which are both great for boosting the moisture in my hair. Aussie is really lightweight and doesn’t create any buildup and OGX (who you may have noticed are slowly becoming one of my favourite brands!) works up into a ridiculously luxurious lather that feels really indulgent.
It’s worth noting that none of these products are a miracle cure – the only thing that fully sorted out my split ends was a good haircut to chop them off! However if your hair gets dry and frizzy like mine then these will definitely help.
