After receiving such a fabulous My Little Box in December (see my review here) I was hoping that January 2016 would live up to my increased expectations. At the same time I knew that this could result in the box being a total let down! When the box finally arrived on the 20th I couldn’t wait to share the contents with you – so let’s see what I thought.
The theme for January 2016 is ‘Wish’ and once you see the contents it’s clear that this month is all about looking forward to the year ahead.
With that in mind, a Walt Disney quote has once again made it onto the keepsake print.
“All our dreams can come true, if you have the courage to pursue them.”
Personally I’d prefer it if it said if WE have the courage to pursue them… but that’s because I’m the grammar police. I’ll let them off because this is a French company and so I guess it’s just gotten a little lost in translation. What an inspiring quote though.
Keeping with the theme is a hardback diary for 2016 with gold lettering on the front, dainty pastel illustrations and charming anecdotes inside. There is nothing flimsy about it, it feels like a high quality one that you’d buy from Paperchase or Kikki K (in fact it’s a bit of a dupe for this one, don’t you think?).
Several people have asked me on Twitter and Instagram and whether it can be purchased separately to the box. Unfortunately it would appear not. It’s available on the MyLittleCorner site but that is French shipping only.
The last lifestyle item is a book of tear and share ribbon wrist bands. These are the sort of thing you’d send to a friend as a little keepsake to show that you’re thinking of them. She would find this thoughtful and adorable. Neither of you would expect her to actually wear them though!
The monthly glossy magazine has had a bit of a makeover. It feels more editorial now with some interesting articles accompanying the usual helpful beauty tips.
It’s also got a sassier writing style. My favourite bit is the following, talking about great men and women through history that have inspired us to seize the day:
1982… Prince instructs 80s kids to live their lives to the fullest and “party like it’s 1999”. Unfortunately, it seems many instead interpret this as: “Forget convention: get a mullet.”
I’m pretty sure that some people received this instead of the Nars Blush last month, so from what I can work out there was an alternative product in some boxes. I, however, am glad to have gotten a chance to try out another cult beauty product that people rave about.
The colour I received is very bright but so far I’m really liking it. I have an uneven cupid’s bow which can be quite difficult to deal with when applying lipstick, but the Too Faced lipstick has a precision foam applicator which I have found helps me to even things out.
I hadn’t actually realised that it was sample sized until I sat down to write this review and looked at the accompanying info. It seemed a decent size to me and will fit neatly in the pocket of my handbag.
Another brand I’ve wanted to try for quite some time – well done My Little Box! This is a Micellar water and is described as a cleanser, toner and make up remover all in one. I’ve not yet found a Micellar water that works as effectively as a cleansing wipe for the removal of mascara, but owing to my having very sensitive skin, I find these waters invaluable for the removal of foundation, concealer and contouring makeup.
This one really does smell softly of roses so it’s a refreshing pick me up for my skin. I’ll have to report back on any long term benefits once I’ve used it for a while.
There’s not too much I can say about this other than that it’s a lovely moisture rich lip balm and smells delicious… but I already own too many lip balms!
I’m really happy with the quality of this month’s box and feel that I got my money’s worth. For that reason I’ve put the review up a little earlier than planned as if you like the look of it, the box is still available for order up until the 31st January.
What do you think of the products included in my review? Are you a fan of subscription boxes?
