A little bit late, I know, but here’s my rundown of the movies, tv and music I loved in 2014 and a look ahead to picks for 2015!
MOVIES
MALEFICENT
I adored Disney’s Sleeping Beauty as a child. Watching this made me feel warm and nostalgic and at the same time enchanted me all over again with a new spin on the tale. Angelina Jolie turned out to be perfect in the role, totally embodying the character whilst persuading you to love the wickedest fairy of all!
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
This movie is so feelgood, it brought a huge smile to my face. Peter Quill is my modern day Hans Solo, plus Chris Pratt’s body transformation inspired Mr F to hit the gym in a major way – no complaints here!
21 & 22 JUMP STREET
I didn’t expect to like these, but they were so stupidly silly that I couldn’t help myself.
TV
GAME OF THRONES
As always, this show had me enthralled each and every week and prompted many discussions with my husband and friends. I bucked convention and decided to back Stanis for the Iron Throne. Mr F still hasn’t forgiven my treachery.
TRUE DETECTIVE
A very slow burn but if you stick with it, the final episodes are breathtaking.
TOTAL DIVAS
This has replaced The Kardashians as my guilty pleasure. WWE, lipgloss and bitchfights – what’s not to love?
Favourite quote: “Girl Bye!”
ALBUMS
CREATION – THE PIERCES
Gorgeous harmonies, slight folk feel, makes me want to dance barefoot in a forest (as you do!).
ULTRAVIOLENCE – LANA DEL REY
Her darkest subject matter yet, but hauntingly, disturbingly beautiful at the same time.
GHOST STORIES – COLDPLAY
Perfect easy listening.
LOOKING AHEAD TO 2015
Finally, I thought I’d just share a few of the movies coming up in 2015 that have caught my eye. There are plenty more that I could mention (Avengers Age of Ultron, The Hunger Games – Mockingjay part 2 and Fifty Shades of Gray to name a few) but here’s few that you may not have heard of that will be worth a look (especially if, like me, you’re a bit of a geek for Futuristic SciFi, Fantasy and Comic Heroes!).
JUPITER ASCENDING
Release Date: February 6, 2015. Directors: Andy Wachowski, Lana Wachowski
Cast: Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Eddie Redmayne, Sean Bean, James D’Arcy, Douglas Booth, Gugu Mbatha-Raw
Even though I think Channing Tatum looks like an angry goat in the trailer, this could be something good.
THE MARTIAN
Release Date: November 25, 2015. Director: Ridley Scott
Cast:
Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Michael Peña, Kristen Wiig,
Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sean Bean
No trailers as of yet. I just read the book through and think this could be very good indeed on the big screen.
ANT MAN
Release Date: July 17, 2015. Director: Peyton Reed
Cast: Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Judy Greer, Hayley Atwell, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña
Of course I’m looking forward to Age of Ultron, but Ant Men is set to have the biggest impact on the Marvel universe. (Plus I like Paul Rudd!)
CINDERELLA
Release Date: 27th March 2015. Director: Kenneth Branagh
Cast: Cate Blanchett, Lily James, Richard Madden, Holliday Grainger, Helena Bonham Carter, Sophie McShera, Helena Bonham Carter, Hayley Atwell, Derek Jacobi, Stellan Skarsgard
Are there any movies I’ve missed that you are looking forward to this year?
